LAREDO- Eight of the best high school students in town are awarded for their hard work and dedication.
Laredo Border Patrol hosted their "Youth of the Month" program at J.B. Alexander High School. Every month, students are chosen based on nominations from various people at their respective schools. These nominations are based a number of things, such as having good grades, being very involved with their school, and being involved regularly in the Laredo community.
"I'm very excited and happy my hard work paid off at the end.", said Mariana Vazquez, of San Agustin High School. "And I'm motivated to keep doing good work and study and make my parents proud."
"Oh my goodness, It's just so exhilarating!", said Krystal Long, of J.B. Alexander High School. "It's crazy. I'm honored. It's so gratifying to be here!"
Most of the children were asked what they plan to do for their futures. They feel like their awards will make a big difference.
"Well, this will definitely prepare me for the future!", said Daisy Cantu, of Martin High School. "Next, I'm focusing on my college career. I want to be a pathologist, and I want to go to medical school."
Youth of the Month is hosted by Laredo Border Patrol every month at different schools around the city. The program is currently in it's 26th year.
