WASHINGTON COUNTY, PA (KRIS) - Dozens of friends and family remembered a 10-year-old girl who was shot and killed in Washington County.
According to the Washington County Coroner's Office, the shooting happened at a home on West Chestnut Street in Washington.
The girl, Taniyah Thomas, was transported to Washington Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Dozens of relatives who live in the area attended a vigil for Thomas Monday night.
The suspect allegedly got in through the front door of the apartment building and went upstairs apparently planning a home invasion. Thomas heard the commotion, got out of her bed and walked in the hallway, heading for her mother's bedroom.
At that time, the gunman shot through the front door of the apartment and hit Thomas.
Thomas' grandfather, Sherman Brown, blames the mother's boyfriend and thinks this was drug-related.
Thomas' father Curtis Thomas begged for answers at her vigil, "She did not deserve this, and somebody knows something, somebody come forward."
