A lot of money

A survey suggests at least it's money well-spent.

(NBC) - A lot of money's about to be spent on what's become an absolute necessity for students - especially college students. But a survey suggests, at least it's money well-spent.

The National Retail Federation predicts parents will be spending close to $75 billion dollars this year to equip their kids for back-to-school.

And a Harris survey commissioned by Dell found a lot of that will go to buy technology - mainly laptop or tablet computers.

It is a lot of money, but parents will be happy to know the Harris survey found it's apparently money well-spent.

77 percent of over 500 students interviewed say they often go directly from the classroom to their device for more information on the classroom subject.

Lauren Berger's a career counselor, author and founder of Internqueen.com.

"Over 55 percent of parents in this Harris poll said they are speaking to their kids less but actually communicating more," said Berger. "Whether that be via email, or texting, or social media."

All of which is made easier now that more colleges and universities are offering on campus - free WiFi.
