Castro backs off Buc-ee's boycott

Joaquin Castro is abandoning his boycott of Buc-ee

SAN ANTONIO, TX (WOAI) - There's renewed faith in the Buc-ee's Beaver.

Congressman Joaquin Castro is abandoning his personal boycott of Buc-ee's over what appeared to be the company's support for State Senator Dan Patrick, who's vying for the Republican nomination for Texas Lt. Governor. Patrick posted a picture of himself with the Buc-ee's Beaver on Facebook, thanking the company for its support, a picture that Rep. Castro calls misleading.

Rep. Castro described Patrick as a "fear mongering immigrant basher" via Twitter. In his statement, Rep. Castro said "Buc-ee's knows what most Texans know, that immigrants are good for business and great for Texas."

So, why did Patrick post the picture to begin with? Buc-ee's owners have donated to the Houston Republican's campaign, but have not used their corporate brand to support him, like Patrick implied.

Rep. Castro's twin brother Mayor Julian Castro is debating Patrick over immigration issues, which is tentatively set for April 15. Patrick is in a May 27 runoff election with current Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst for the Republican nomination.
