A new study from the University College of London found that the risk of death by any cause was reduced by 42% if people eat up to ten portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

The study followed 65,000 men and women who ate at least seven portions of fruit and vegetables daily.

The British government has already said it will not update its five portions a day guidelines.
