OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (KOCO) - An Oklahoma City Girl Scout broke the national record for cookie sales this weekend.
Katie Francis, a sixth-grader at Hefner Middle School, set a new cookie selling record Sunday night by selling 18,107 boxes.
"I was just really, really happy," said Katie. "I started dancing around. I was excited that I had made it.
"For the last two years, I beat the state record and it just seemed like the national record was next on the list."
Along with her mother, Katie pushes her wagon of cookies all over the Oklahoma City metro.
"There are three ingredients to the cookie sale," she said. "It takes lots of time, commitment and asking everybody I see."
The family's SUV is stuffed with boxes of cookies, so Katie can make a sell anywhere from school to dance class.
The "A" student loves to sing and dance, and often does both to get people's attention when she's selling cookies.
"It takes a lot of time and a lot of adrenalin," laughs her mother, DeLee Francis. "But it's a lot of fun, too."
Katie has no plans to stop. She hopes to sell at least 20,000 boxes by the end of this month and set a lifetime goal of 100,000 boxes.
"It's a lot of fun and I'm really good at it," said Katie. "Cookie selling is just so much fun to me."
