MICHOACAN, MX (NBC) - Mexico has seized more than 119,000 tons of minerals suspected of being part of illegal export operations.

The seizure took place at a port in the state of Michoacan. Investigators said it's where the powerful Knights Templar drug cartel allegedly had been shipping iron to China.

More than 400 federal agents and other officers were involved in the operation. The Michoacan state has been plagued by a bloody conflict between the Knights Templar and heavily armed vigilantes.
