Austin district concerned teacher may have assaulted other students

AUSTIN, TEXAS (KXAN) — Parents packed a meeting Monday morning where Austin ISD officials were expected to give more information about their investigation into sexual assault allegations against one of its teachers.

Media was not permitted to attend Monday morning’s meeting.

Parents spoke with KXAN as they left the meeting saying district officials taught them how to talk with their children about the sensitive subject. The district also handed out a bilingual flier with bullet points to help parents talk with their children.

The parents were upset about the incident but said the school is changing some of its policies to allow parents to have breakfast and lunch with their children as a result of the incident.

Additional meetings are scheduled for 6 p.m. at Reilly Elementary and 6 p.m. Tuesday at Walnut Creek Elementary.

Alfredo Andrade-Gaytan, 33, was arrested on Friday following an AISD police investigation. He was served a notice of termination from AISD at the same time.

Andrade-Gaytan, a third-grade bilingual teacher, had been teaching a summer school program at Reilly Elementary. He was hired by AISD in 2005 and has worked in McBee, Read and Linder elementary schools.

Police documents allege he assaulted a 6-year-old girl Wednesday after asking her if she’d like to stay in from recess and play a game.

The girl told her family Wednesday. Andrade-Gaytan allegedly confessed to AISD Police on Friday. He remains in the Travis County Jail.

District officials indicate there is no evidence that any other children were in danger.
