BASTROP, TEXAS (KXAN) - A former youth pastor is facing sex assault charges after he was accused of having sex with a 15-year-old girl.
Bastrop Sheriff’s Office said they arrested 25-year-old Isaiah Arellano, 25, on Wednesday.
“This was a youth pastor. This was supposed to be somebody who represented God. This was the ultimate betrayal,” said Julie, a mother of five from Bastrop who wanted to protect her identity. “This person was a second son to me, and I didn’t want to believe what I had just seen.”
Julie said she was sleeping on the couch in her living room in April when she got up to go to the kitchen. She said looked to her left where the game room is located and saw Arellano having sex with her daughter. Julie said Arellano was living with her family for a couple months after going through some marital issues.
“We opened up our home to him because he was going through hardships. I was told that he didn’t have another place to go to where he felt trusted or accepted,” said Julie. “Him being the youth pastor of our church, we trusted him.”
After the incident, Julie kicked Arellano out and called the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office. Her family also stopped attending Faith Impact Fellowship, where Arellano worked as a youth pastor. Investigators say the teen told investigators she and Arellano had sex on three separate occasions.
The main pastor of Faith Impact Fellowship told KXAN over the phone that Arellano is his nephew and that he has been dismissed from the church.
“I don’t think my faith in God was ever challenged. I think my faith in humanity was challenged,” Julie added. “There are going to be predators, and you just have to watch who you allow around your children. Unfortunately, we learned that lesson too little too late.”
