Child shocked by downed power line

Emergency crews say the incident happened just outside a home near I-35 and Shepherd Road in Far South Bexar County, near the town of Lytle.

The child's grandmother says the downed line was across the driveway when the child came in contact with it as he and his brother walked toward the school bus stop.

LYTLE, TEXAS (WOAI) - A 10-year-old boy who came in contact with a downed power line was shocked Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews say the incident happened just outside a home near I-35 and Shepherd Road in Far South Bexar County, near the town of Lytle.

The child's grandmother says the downed line was across the driveway when the child came in contact with it as he and his brother walked toward the school bus stop.

The victim was thrown about five feet into a shallow ditch.

He was initially unconscious, but eventually became alert. A Bexar County sheriff's deputy says the child suffered burns to his back and feet. He was taken to University Hospital and is expected to survive.

A downed power line could be seen just outside the property's fence. No other injuries were reported.
