SAN ANTONIO, TX (WOAI) - A local couple is fighting to keep VIA Metro from turning their land into a bus stop.

VIA leaders say they're just trying to improve the city's transportation.

She and her husband own the vacant property at 819 West Laurel that now VIA wants too.

Now, it's a battle over eminent domain. LULAC is backing the family, saying they rejected via's $90,000 dollar offer to sell because it was too low. VIA leaders say it was a good offer they should have taken.

Now, VIA is taking the owners to court. It's one of the busiest parts of town for ridership and they have big plans.

VIA and Ramirez have been in negotiations for years and she admits to turning down offers.

Ramirez says she thinks the property may have historical significance and is willing to lease but not sell.

Ramirez says right now she's willing to lease the land not sell. A date for commissioners to hear the case has not been set.
