Investigators say the the officer was heading to a call at the time of the crash.

HOUSTON, TX (KPRC) - A Houston police officer was involved in a head-on collision Friday morning on Houston's south side, investigators say.

The crash happened at around 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and South Acres Drive.

Investigators say the the officer was heading to a call at the time of the crash. The officer believes he had his lights and sirens on, but investigators say that fact remains under investigation.

The officer was heading through the intersection when his police cruiser collided head-on with an oncoming car, police say.

HPD says the oncoming car spun four times.

The driver in the car had non-life-threatening injuries. Two other passengers and the police officer were not hurt.

According to HPD, the driver will be checked for impairment as they work to investigate who was at fault.
