SAN ANTONIO, TX (WOAI) - Police say a 19-year veteran of the force accidentally shot himself early Wednesday morning at the San Antonio Police Department helicopter hangar.
The incident happened at the department's hangar located at Stinson Airport on the city's South Side. A police department spokesman says the officer was switching holsters when he shot himself in the hand. He was able to call for help.
The officer was taken to University Hospital for treatment. He is expected to be okay. The officer works as a pilot for SAPD's eagle helicopter program.
Police believe this was an accidental shooting, but it remains under investigation.
