AUSTIN, TX (KXAN) – A Dripping Springs man will spend 15 years in federal prison for robbing five banks and one grocery store in 2013.
Randall Reed, 52, was sentenced on Tuesday by United States District Judge Lee Yeakel.
According to court records, between February 2013 and July 2013, Reed admitted to robbing a Prosperity Bank, Northstar Bank and Benchmark Bank in Austin, in addition to a Broadway Bank in San Antonio, a Pioneer Bank in San Marcos and a customer service center at a Randall’s grocery store in southwest Austin.
In all, Reed managed to steal approximately $32,000 from the six locations.
After completing his prison term, he will be placed under supervised release for three years.
Reed’s last robbery at the Benchmark Bank at 1508 W. 35th St. on July 26, 2013 occurred just hours before Larry Eugene Jackson Jr. was shot and killed by an Austin police officer.
Police say Jackson tried to get into the Benchmark Bank at 1508 W. 35th Street but wasn’t able to enter since the bank’s doors were locked due to the ongoing robbery investigation that stemmed from earlier in the day.
