EDINBURG, TEXAS (KRGV) - A man who admitted to sexually assaulting two young girls wants a judge to sentence him to probation.
Eldo Steven Reyes is scheduled to be sentenced on June 23 in the 139th District Court in Hidalgo County. One of his victims fears he may walk free.
The 19-year-old recalls the abuse she suffered five years ago. The attack changed her life forever.
"I was too young to even be there. I don't know what I was doing," she said.
"I don't remember the drinks at all," she said.
"I kept blacking out," she said.
She was just 14 when the assault happened at Island Palms Apartments in Edinburg in 2009.
"When I'd wake up, when I'd come back, I was fighting him ... telling him ‘no,'" she said.
"I just wish I would have fought a lot more," she said.
She told family and then the police, but she wasn't ready to step out of the shadows and into a courtroom.
"I was already trying to forget it. I didn't want to think about it. Then, they called me recently and told me it happened to someone else," she said.
That's when the victim decided Reyes needed to go to prison
Her sworn affidavit led to a guilty plea.
Court records show Reyes confessed to sexually assaulting two underage girls. He then asked a judge for deferred adjudication.
Instead of serving up to 20 years in prison, Reyes would be placed under community supervision and register as a sex offender. He would not serve any jail time.
"That's a slap in the face," the victim said.
She decided to break her silence.
"I don't even want to go to court, but I have to," she said.
A judge will ultimately decide if deferred adjudication will be granted in this case.
