Sightings of escaped sex offender pour into Marshals office

AUSTIN, TEXAS (KXAN) — The U.S. Marshals have received at least 30 tips from people saying they have seen Kevin Stoeser, a convicted sex offender who walked away from an Austin halfway house last October.

Stoeser was added to the U.S. Marshals Top 15 Most Wanted list on Monday after he failed to return to the Austin Transitional Center last fall.

The sightings were as close as 51st Street and Interstate 35 in Austin, and as far away as Cleveland.

Each unconfirmed sighting placed Stoeser at a different location, making it difficult for investigators to determine how legitimate each report is.

Billboards displaying Stoeser’s picture are currently in place in San Antonio and El Paso.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading directly to his arrest. Anyone with information is urged to contact the nearest U.S. Marshals office or the U.S. Marshals Service Communications Center at 1-800-336-0102. Tips may also be emailed to usms.wanted@usdoj.gov.
