Six-year-old killed in early morning crash

According to police, the mother drove into a ditch, flipping the car.

Deputies said the car hit a concrete retention structure and then flipped on its side.

CHANNELVIEW, TEXAS (KPRC) - A family is in mourning after a 6-year-old boy was killed in a car crash.

Harris County deputies say the crash happened around 7:50 Sunday morning on De Zavalla Road near Hoover in Channelview.

Investigators said the driver, Zulma Sevilla, was headed westbound when she crossed the center line and drove into a ditch.

Deputies said the car hit a concrete retention structure and then flipped on its side.

Investigators said Sevilla’s 9-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son were in the car at the time.

Emergency crews flew Sevilla’s son to Memorial Hermann Hospital while she and her daughter were transported by ambulance.

Deputies said Sevilla’s son did not survive the crash. Investigators have not said what caused Sevilla to cross the center line, nor if they expect any charges to be filed.

The crash is under investigation. No other information was provided.
