AUSTIN, TEXAS (KXAN) - A Vandegrift High School student was taken into custody after being found with a gun at school on Monday.
In a letter to parents, Principal Charlie Little said the handgun was not loaded and it was unclear whether the weapon was ‘functionally viable.’
Little added there was never a threat to any students or staff and that a full investigation is underway.
“The safety of our staff and students is always our highest priority,” Little said in the letter.
Leander Independent School District officials said they could not go into further detail about where or how the gun was found.
Travis County constables are handling the investigation.
