PFLUGERVILLE, TEXAS (KXAN) - A tortilla chip manufacturing company is saying “adios” to downtown Austin and moving its business to Pflugerville instead.

On Wednesday, the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) announced that El Lago Mexican Foods will move its operations to a 24,000 square feet space at the corner of SH 130 and Pecan Street.

For the past 60 years, El Lago has been operating at the same building on East Fourth Street, just east of Plaza Saltillo.

According to the business owners, the company’s location in East Austin is no longer the best distribution point.

The Pflugerville City Council approved a $60,000 economic development agreement proposed by the PCDC to El Lago. As part of the agreement, El Lago will bring a minimum of 40 jobs to Pflugerville.

El Lago is the largest distributor of tortillas and chips in Texas. They manufacture custom tortilla chips and tortillas for restaurants and grocery stores.

The business is expected to move to its new location by mid-August.
