Truck carrying marijuana crashes after pursuit

PENITAS, TEXAS (KRGV) - An unmanned vehicle carrying bundles of marijuana crashed into a mailbox and fence. It happened in Penitas Tuesday afternoon.

The driver, an 18-year-old Mexican national, bailed from the black Chevy pickup after police started a pursuit. But the truck kept going. After it crashed, officers recovered 226 pounds of marijuana from inside the pickup.

The suspect was taken into custody. He faces drug possession charges.

Investigators said the chase started, when officers spotted the driver partially traveling on the shoulder and the lane, west of Showers Road.
