Woman arrested for theft of meat packages

On Sunday, April 27th at around 1:45 p.m. police were called to the Walmart store located at 1801 W. Lincoln Avenue in reference to a shoplifter in custody.

HARLINGEN, TX (KVEO) - Harlingen police arrested a woman after she was caught for not paying for several packages of meat.

On Sunday, April 27th at around 1:45 p.m. police were called to the Walmart store located at 1801 W. Lincoln Avenue in reference to a shoplifter in custody.

The officer was advised that Loss Prevention observed the woman, later identified as Elena Herrera Martinez, 53, selecting and then placing six packages of meat inside her purse.

Martinez was seen passing several open registers and exiting the store without paying for the merchandise she was detained and the items were returned.

Martinez was arrested and due to previous convictions the theft charge was upgraded to a state felony offense with a bond set at $5,000.
