SpaceX unveils new spacecraft

The spacecraft is designed to ferry up to seven astronauts to the International Space Station and should be ready by 2017.

HAWTHORNE CA (KXAN) – SpaceX is unveiling its newest spacecraft.

The Dragon V2 features landing legs that pop out and a propulsion system designed to land almost anywhere. The con-headed craft is reusable, which will cut down on costs and open up opportunities.

The spacecraft is designed to ferry up to seven astronauts to the International Space Station and should be ready by 2017.

SpaceX is one of several private companies competing to build “space taxis” for NASA to replace the retired space shuttle fleet.
