South Korea is abuzz with Pope Francis

Pope Francis' choice of wheels during his five-day visit to South Korea has surprised many in the country.

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA (NBC) - South Korea is abuzz with Pope Francis's choice of wheels during his five-day visit to the country.

The Pope picked a compact Kia Soul as his official transport, surprising many in the country, where important people rarely hit the streets in anything but expensive luxury cars.

After his arrival on Thursday the pope climbed into the back seat of the boxy Kia Soul, rolled down the window and waved.

Since his election last year, Pope Francis has stressed to the clergy the importance of frugality and asked them to forego expensive limousines.

South Korean media widely reported that the Pope requested the smallest South Korean car during his visit.

No doubt the pope's choice of wheels is a blessing for Kia Motors.
