Three of Pope Francis' relatives were killed in a car crash in Argentina.

(NBC) - Three of Pope Francis's relatives have been killed in a traffic accident Tuesday in Argentina.

The Pope's niece and her two sons were killed in the accident, which occurred in Argentina's Central Cordoba province.

The Pope's nephew, who was driving the car, was critically injured in the accident, and is in serious condition at at a hospital.

Officials say the family's car slammed into the back of a truck, crumbling beneath it.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

A papal spokesman says Pope Francis has been informed of the accident and is painfully sorry, and asks all of those sharing his grief to pray with him.
