Rare "zonkey" born in Mexico

The zoo says the zonkey is rare because zebra and donkey chromosomes are not compatible.

REYNOSA, MX (NBC) - A zonkey is born in Northern Mexico.

The animal is a rare cross between a zebra and a donkey. Reynosa Zoo in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas said it was born on April 21.

The zoo says the zonkey is rare because zebra and donkey chromosomes are not compatible.

According to the zoo, the zebra mother used to visit the donkey father every afternoon and the donkey would also cross into the zoo to see her.
