The US military began the operations earlier this month to aid Kurdish fighters in their battle against the extremist militants near the Kurdish capital of Erbil and the Mosul Dam.

A US jet continued to take off from the U.S.S. George H.W. Bush over the weekend, as part of aerial operations against Isis militants in Northern Iraq.

NORTHERN IRAQ (NBC) - A US jet continued to take off from the U.S.S. George H.W. Bush over the weekend, as part of aerial operations against Isis militants in Northern Iraq.

The US military began the operations earlier this month to aid Kurdish fighters in their battle against the extremist militants near the Kurdish capital of Erbil and the Mosul Dam.

US strikes around the dam and Erbil continued over the weekend, targeting Isis military vehicles.

By Thursday, US drones and fighter jets had conducted 89 airstrikes against militant targets in northern Iraq.

The commander of the carrier said the military actions were taken when necessary.
