Former TAMIU shortstop Alvaro Rendon has been signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks as an undrafted free agent.
After an injury derailed his senior season, TAMIU baseball star Alvaro Rendon was scheduled to be back on campus next year, instead he's off to a Major League farm club. Rendon has been signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks as an undrafted free agent following a good showing at the Texas College League All-Star game. The shortstop becomes just the 7th Dustdevil to be signed by a professional team, joining catcher Alex McKeon as the 2nd from this years team. Rendon was a standout for TAMIU in 2013, earning 2nd team all-conference honors while hitting .309 with 23 runs scored. The native of the Dominican Republic came to Laredo continuing his baseball career at LCC before transferring to TAMIU.
