For the TAMIU women, they are coming off their first ever Heartland Conference championship and were honored as such this afternoon. Junior forward Alexis Thomas was named the Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Year after averaging almost a steal a game to go along with seven rebounds a contest, all while guarding the oppositions best player. Senior center Malicka Jackson is the only Dustdevil to make the all conference first team after a season of averaging 16 points and nine rebounds a game. Finally Sam Chacon was tabbed as an all-conferece 2nd teamer after notching 16 points a game while shooting better than 40 percent from deep. Leading the women to the conference championship this year is Michelle Bento Jackson who was named the Coach of the Year for the women. The Heartland Conference tournament will start Friday at 5:30 with the Dustdevils taking on St. Edwards.
