CROSBY, TX - A Texas high school student has his dream date for this year's prom.
Thanks to the power of social media, he'll be escorting an NFL cheerleader.
After a little nudging from his friends, 17 year old Mike Ramirez, a football player from Crosby High School got the courage to get on twitter and ask Caitlyn, a Houston Texans cheerleader, to be his prom date.
Mike Ramirez, taking cheerleader to prom, said, "So I was like if I get 10,000 retweets, will you go to prom with me?"
Caitlyn, Texans Cheerleader, said, "My immediate reaction was absolutely. So I responded and confirmed it with my coach and with the Texans and everything."
Almost immediately Mike's retweet campaign went viral.
Mike Ramirez, taking cheerleader to Prom, said, "When I got to school, that's when it started going up more and more. I got to 3,000, 4,000 I got from like 6,000 to 8,000 in like 30 minutes."
Caitlyn, Texans cheerleader, said, "I didn't really think it was going to explode that fast but tons of people were retweeting it. Some big pages."
Then during sixth period Friday, about 24 hours after his quest began Mike hit 10,000 retweets and got the confirmation from Caitlyn.
Caitlyn, Texans cheerleader, said, "I'm excited. I feel like I'm back in high school. I get to pick out a dress. I get to get my hair and make-up done."
Mike has got some prepping to do himself.
Mike Ramirez said, "I'm thinking maybe a Texans colored suit like blue bowtie red bowtie or some red shoes blue suit Texans colors."
There is a life lesson here too. Mike says it just goes to show that for a little risk taking and persistence can take you.
Mike Ramirez said, "Some stuff may seem impossible but its not. You just got to take risks and some will pay off."
