Wayo Salinas signs his letter to attend the United States Naval Academy in the fall of 2014.

For one Laredo athlete today was a big one as he signed his name on the dotted line to attend college this fall. Wayo Salinas was a key member of the Alexander basketball team that made the third round this year but he won't be playing hoops next year, instead he's off to the United States Naval Academy. The Annapolis school is difficult to get into requiring not only a high level of academics but also physical traits as well. The decision wasn't an easy one for this life long Aggie fan but it's one he's happy he made.

According to congressman Henry Cuellar, Salinas is the first Laredoan to be accepted to any of the countries service academies in over a decade.
