Even when down big, the Bulldog baseball team refuses to give in, finding ways to win.

The Alexander baseball team has been dominant all season long, but late Saturday evening the Bulldogs found themselves down by seven, starring at a premature end to their season. Instead of giving up, the team rallied behind their mantra of “Together we Will.”

On paper the Alexander Bulldogs should have dominated Weslaco, instead after an inning and a half the blue and gold found themselves in a very dangerous spot.

"To us it was a wake up call that anything can happen in the game of baseball. We were down 9-2 in the fourth inning and everyone was scared, i was a little scared." (Gera Ramos, Alexander Right Fielder)

"It was pretty tough coming to the dugout after that rough 2nd inning but we just had to stay mentally strong because that was the only way we'd come back." (Rudy Gaona, Alexander Center Fielder)

Instead of giving up the Bulldogs would chip away at the lead, tying the game into the bottom of the seventh when Gaona came through with a clutch game winning hit.

"Coaches said there's a little bit of angels in the outfield, a little bit of luck, make the clutch hits and play as a team."

"Our kids do a real good job of keep fighting, they play with a lot of intensity and it's our job just to maintain and keep them focused."

Now as they get ready for another do or die situation, the Bulldogs know a target is on their back being ranked 6th in the state by the coaches and 19th in the country thanks to maxpreps.com. Alexander says the memory of being down big late will keep them concentrated as they continue a deep playoff run.

“This is what we've been working so hard since the summer for. That's our goal and we aren't going to stop until we achieve it."

"I don't think we're quite done yet. I think it brought the team even closer like a family and I believe we still have a long way to go."

Alexander will face La Joya Palmview this Friday in another one game situation in Alice. First pitch is scheduled for 8 pm.
