Today marked day two of the district 29-5A golf championships for both the boys and girls at the Laredo Country Club. For the guys it's Del Rio that comes away the champions narrowly edging out United by just two strokes. The Rams won despite not placing any of their guys in the top three individual scores for the pair of rounds. Alexanders Connor Wilkinson took the solo title home for the guys as he shot an even par 72 today. After the round the junior talked about what it will take for him to bring home the regional title next week.
On the girls side it was all United in the team competition as they dominated the field winning by 118 strokes. Del Rio comes in second while the Alexander girls finished in third. Not surprisingly the Longhorns swept the top three spots in individual finishes as well with Daniela Mendeza bringing home the title. She spoke to us about the joy of not only winning the solo crown but keeping their team dominance going as well.
The next step for these athletes is the regional tournament next week in Kerrville with the boys playing on Monday and Tuesday with the girls to follow on Wednesday and Thursday.
