LCC's International Women's Day

Date(s): 3/5/2014

12:00pm

William N. "Billy" Hall Jr. Student Center Laredo Community College South Campus
LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Laredo has always had local heroes, but we rarely hear about them.

A group of 18 women in Laredo are considered by some as these “local heroes.” They will be honored for their achievements and contributions to the community by a student club during Laredo Community College South’s 9th annual International Women’s Day celebration. LCC instructor and RACE (Revolutionary Arts and Cultural Empowerment) Club advisor Mary Sue Galindo said the event is long overdue.

Among the honorees are Graciela Ramirez, Betty Flores, Michelle Hinojosa, Laura Silva Quesada, Viola Moore, United States District Judge Diana Saldaña, Dr. Cecilia May Moreno, Leticia Moran, Tricia Cortez, Norma Zuñiga Benavides, United States District Judge Elma Salinas Ender, Dr. Norma Cantu, Beatriz Nix, Olivia Saenz Bravo, the late Barbara Ann Kazen, Estella Zamora Kramer, Raquel Senties, Lauren Nicole Guzman, and Maria Eugenia “Meg” Guerra.

The event will showcase the biographies of the honorees and feature original narratives written by LCC students. International Women’s Day honors important women in and outside the community by highlighting their struggles and successes.

The event is hosted by the RACE Club of LCC South, which has held the annual celebration since 2005. It will take place Wednesday, March 5 at 12 p.m. at the William N. “Billy” Hall Jr. Student Center at the South Campus. The event is free and open to the campus and public.
For more information about LCC’s celebration of International Women’s Day, contact Mary Sue Galindo at 794-4736.
