WHAT: Centeno Potato Judging Contest for Scholastic Book Fair

ADDITIONAL: Centeno’s 9th annual Build a Potato Character from a Book contest challenges Pre-K- 5th grade students to build their favorite storybook characters out of potatos and common household items. Guest judges from the Laredo Public Library, Books A Million and other UISD campuses will judge the 100 entries that were crafted by students. Winners will receive Scholastic Book Fair gift certificates. This event is designed to promote reading.

2014 Booky Awards

The Laredo Public Library Teen Advisory Board will be hosting the 2014 Booky Awards on March 20, 2014. Students in 6th - 12th grade in Webb County may participate in the competition for this year’s best book trailer. Students will create a :30 to :90 second video trailer on any book they choose. Students competing will have a chance to win in five categories and be awarded a trophy and prize. Winners for five categories will be chosen by a panel of judges the night of the event, Friday, March 20, 2014 at the Booky Awards Ceremony and one winner will be chosen by popular vote; voting will be conducted on Laredo Public Library's Facebook page from March 10 – 17.
Deadline for entries is March 5, 2014. Forms and files can e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or dropped off at the Laredo Public Library, 1120 E. Calton Road with Niki Acosta or Rick Carrillo.
Each participant or group may submit one video per entry. Each entry must included signed model release form(s). All audio and artwork must be created by the entrant or be in the public domain and must be specified as such on the entry form. Visit https://creativecommons.org/legalmusicforvideos. All videos must be appropriate for viewing by audiences of all ages.
Videos will be judged on message clarity and relevance; motivation and inspiration; and overall impact. Categories include: Best Trailer; Best Use of Music; Best Editing; Best Script; and Best Acting.
