The Laredo Energy Arena is proud to announce the participating restaurants and other food creations for the 2016 Taste of Laredo scheduled for Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

“Come hungry and enjoy this appetizing event where there will be a variety of mouthwatering samples from Japanese, Mexican and American cuisines to sweet desserts,” said Xavier Villalon, General Manager of the SMG - Managed Laredo Energy Arena. “There will be over 15 booths to choose from, which will leave your taste buds wanting and craving more!”

Spectators can vote for their favorite cuisine, delicacies and best decorated booth, while restaurants compete for the Judge’s Choice of Best Tasting Cuisine and Best Tasting Delicacies.

People can experience a Premium Beer Tasting event in our concourse lounge. The fee will be $10 for 12 samples.

Enjoy music by Derek Spence as he performs his famous tribute performance to George Strait. Special guest Chris Brade will open the event.

A Texan native, who was born in Nacogdoches, Spence earned a degree in Performing Arts Production from South Plains College. He has performed everywhere from Fiesta Texas to the Grand Ole Opry. During his time spent at the Grand Ole Opry, he shared the stage with folks like Shania Twain, Diamond Rio, Kenny Rogers, Trisha Yearwood, and Restless Heart.

While in Nashville, two major record labels turned him down because they said “You look too much like George Strait”. The look and vocal talent have helped Derek become the top “George Strait Tribute Show” in America.

Every year, approximately 2,500 Laredoans and tourists enjoy sampling delicious food from both sides of the border.

The Taste of Laredo is part of the Washington’s Birthday Celebration.
Admission is $25 for adults and free for children 12 years and under.

As part of the Washington’s Birthday Celebration, the Laredo Energy Arena will once again host the Taste of Laredo on Thurs., Feb. 4, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

“We are honored to hold this event for the 14th year in commemoration of our First President, George Washington,” said Xavier Villalon, General Manager of the SMG - Managed Laredo Energy Arena. “Washington may have not set foot in Laredo, but he would be proud of what has become of our border town and the bi-cultural diversity it offers.”

Every year, approximately 2,500 Laredoans and tourists sample delicious food from both sides of the border.

Frontera Fusion by Vega’s Interiores

A separate immersive culinary experience, hosted along Laredo’s famed San Bernardo Avenue and in conjunction with its merchants association, this is a course on the use of the molcajete (a Mexican mortar and pestle.)

This traditional set of tools has been used for generations in Latino food preparation; learn about traditional and unconventional ways to use the molcajete.

Each class begins at approximately 3:00 p.m. or earlier (weather permitting) at the patio at Vega’s and costs $25.00 per participant. Each person receives an hour and half of instruction, botanas, beverages and a take home memento.

Safe and Sober Pre-Spring Break Celebration 2014

As Laredo Community College students prepare for spring break, the college is promoting a message of safety during the annual Safe and Sober Spring Break celebration.

Representatives from various community agencies will be on hand at both campuses to help educate students on the preventable dangers of alcohol and substance abuse. The Office of Student Life also will provide non-alcoholic “mocktails” and other treats to students as a reminder that fun does not require alcohol.

LCC classes will be suspended and campus offices will be closed during spring break, March 10-15. The college will reopen on Monday, March 17.
