Local bowling team continues tradition
Every Tuesday here in the gateway city, a bowling team strikes out their worries with a friendly competition.
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - How do you continue traditions during uncertain times?
Well, we take a look at a local bowling league who is doing what they love in a safe way.
Every Tuesday here in the gateway city, a bowling team strikes out their worries with a friendly competition.
“We just like to have fun,” said Julio Jamie.
The pandemic has shifted a lot traditions, leading some people to adjust.
Over at the Jet Bowl North on McPherson Road, a group of friends are lifting their spirits with a game they’ve been playing for years.
”It’s just a fun thing to do,” said Alex Villarreal. “Like it though, haha.”
They call themselves Prestige Worldwide and they’ve been a part of a local bowling league for two years ago.
“We’ve been bowling all our lives and made it a tradition to come every Tuesday.”
Now they enjoy their hobby while making it count on the scoreboard.
“Having fun with friends. I don’t take it too serious like much people but thats what I love having fun with friends.”
Things at the bowling alley used to be on pause during the first stages of COVID-19, making the team stop for a few months.
“For a while the bowling alley did close, but they have really good COVID-19 protocols here. We actually wear a mask at the table and they actually skip a table so we’re not next to any teams.”
With the fear of safety no longer on the table, they can continue their tradition of having a good time.
Even after two seasons, they say it’s still a friendly game.
They tell us they have a lot to improve, but maybe in the future it’ll get competitive.
Every Tuesday, many more teams are competing alongside Prestige Worldwide.
