LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) -Now that the holiday season is officially underway, authorities are reminding drivers, to protect your ride and everything inside when you are out shopping.

Last year, roughly 77,000 vehicles were stolen in the state of Texas and nearly 200,000 vehicles are burgled each year.

During the holidays, many motorists often go store to store to shop for holiday gifts, which is when thieves might be looking to make their move.

In an effort to prevent becoming a victim of car theft or burglary, Laredo Police are reminding drivers to lock your car doors, hide valuable items, and park in well-lit areas.

Authorities say to park your vehicle with its wheels turned toward the curb and use your emergency break, making it harder for your vehicle to be towed away.

Police add that you should never leave your vehicle running while unattended.

If you have been a victim of theft or burglary you can report to police at 795-2800.
