LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A Zapata man is heading to prison for trying to smuggle several pounds of marijuana into the country.

Roberto Villarreal admitted to driving to a ranch near Falcon Lake in Zapata on March 15 to pick up the 18 bundles of marijuana.

When a sheriff deputy stopped Villarreal for a traffic violation, he admitted to them his plans to pick up the drugs.

He was found guilty in August but this week he was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.
