LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The struggle with COVID ICU capacity continues at our local hospitals.

Because of that, the transfer of patients has begun.

The Laredo Emergency Management Coordinator says that so far 1 out-of-town transfer has been made, as well as 2 inter-facility transfers.

Meanwhile, one the youngest COVID patients reported in Laredo is set to be transferred soon to Corpus Christi.

One of Laredo’s youngest COVID patient is facing a tough challenge.

On Wednesday, health officials report that a 2-month-old baby will be transferred to a hospital in Corpus Christi for COVID care.

Unlike most children who are diagnosed with COVID, the Laredo health authority Doctor Victor Trevino says the infant is showing symptoms.

The baby is set to be transferred to Driscoll Hospital.

Trevino says this move had to be made because of the specialized services offered there.

Driscoll has an extensive pediatric ICU and NICU, as well as a general medical and surgical facility for children.

Laredo does not have a pediatric ICU.

Trevino says the case is under investigation.

City health officials did not elaborate on the mother’s COVID status.
