LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) -Border Patrol agents foiled a human smuggling attempt involving two stolen vehicles.

The incident happened on Tuesday, March 30th when agents at the Cotulla Station responded to a tip regarding two suspicious pick-up trucks, a Ford and a Toyota that were traveling north on I-35.

Officials with the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on both vehicles; however, the drivers refused and sent deputies on a chase in separate directions.

Authorities followed the Ford which ended up north of Dilley where several occupants got out and fled on foot. Agents were able to find four individuals who were hiding in the brush.

Meanwhile, agents found the Toyota abandoned inside a ranch 14 miles northwest of Cotulla.

Agents searched the area and found nine individuals. All were determined to be illegally present in the U.S. and from Mexico.

Record checks revealed that both vehicles were stolen from San Antonio.
