LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A fire broke out on Thursday night near a local boatyard.

Ashes and charred debris is all that’s left form a massive fire that lit up the night sky.

The fire started just before midnight off El Dorado Court in west Laredo near the Southpoint Marine Boatyard.

The blaze spread out across six acres of land with flames caught shooting into the sky that could be seen miles away.

Seven fire engines were called out to battle the fire, in total taking firefighters nearly 8 hours to put the fire out and clear the area.

Now, fire investigators are beginning their search in to what may have caused the fire.

One witness KGNS spoke to says there were windy conditions at the time. However, officials say they don’t believe wind was a factor.

But the sheer size of the fire and the area it covered proved to be a major challenge for firefighters.

“They managed to finish attacking the blaze at 2:43 this morning, after that at 2:43, what happens is we leave a fire crew there,” said Ricardo Oliva.

Friday morning, fire officials were back at the site looking for clues for what caused this fire. Other firefighters were still there as a precaution.

“What we do is called ‘fire watch’ to make sure there’s no rekindle of this area, and if it does rekindle we can manage the situation as soon as possible.”

The area affected was not in a residential area, but there were businesses around.

No injuries are reported.
