LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A new avocado facility is headed to the gateway city.

The city has inked an agreement with West Pak Avocado Inc.

They will build an $18 million facility creating over 140 new full time jobs.

This is an economic incentive performance deal that Laredo city council approved Monday.

According to the city’s Economic Development Director Teclo Garcia, they are working on bringing more companies like this to Laredo.

“It’s part of what we’re doing. We had Mission Product which is an avocado company from California, as well commit to the city last year with a $50 million project. Now this is an almost $20 million project and then we have some more in the works so hopefully we can continue along this path.”

West Pak is the fifth major cold storage/produce facility announced in the last 18 months for Laredo.

Teclo says the facility will be set up in the Mines Road industrial area.
