LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - The mother of a transgender child is speaking out after Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered the Department of Family and Protective Services to investigate reports of gender-confirming care as child abuse last week.

Rebekah Bryant believes the governor is trying to scare families to leave Texas.

She says, “Lots of parents are looking at the alternatives to Texas. I’m a seventh generation Texan. I do not want to flee my state. We plan to stay and fight, until we deem it unsafe for our family and for our child. That’s the number one priority.”

A judge granted a temporary restraining order Wednesday to keep the state from investigating the parents of transgender children for child abuse.

It comes after the American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit on behalf of three Texas families currently under investigation.
