LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - Reinforcements have been sent to Nuevo Laredo to help bring days of violence under control after several days of gunfights between cartel members and Mexican military.

Last week, sounds of machine guns, and explosions rocked Nuevo Laredo as clashes between military and organized crime broke out in reaction to the capture of cartel leader Juan Gerardo Trevino Chavez also known as “El Huevo”.

The Mexican Consul spoke out about the recent violence in Mexico saying that although it’s a complicated matter they are working to contain the violence.

Mexican Consul General Juan Carlos Mendoza says, “I can assure you that Mexico is doing its best there are many factors that are provoking this situation in Mexico it’s not just one single thing there are domestic factors, there are international factors who are part of this situation in Mexico, and we are working to try to contain this violence in Mexico.”

Trevino-Chavez was deported back to the United States and handed over to federal authorities late last week.

He is facing several charges including drug trafficking and money laundering.

He faces life in prison.
