LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Senator Ted Cruz is sharing his excitement over the new presidential permit approval for the Laredo 4/5 International Bridge project.

In a White House advisory Thursday morning, President Biden granted permission for South Webb Bridge Company to construct, maintain, and operate a vehicle and pedestrian border crossing within Webb County.

A few hours later, Senator Cruz took to X to share his thoughts on the developments regarding the new Webb County project. The Texas senator emphasized that this project was among his top priorities and expressed pride in collaborating with his colleagues to support its advancement, noting that the approval will increase trade, boost resiliency in the supply chain, and support good-paying jobs across Texas.

Sen. Cruz’s full statement is as follows:

I’ve made securing presidential permits for Texas-Mexico border bridge infrastructure projects a top priority. My bipartisan legislation to streamline the approval process for these bridge projects has now resulted in yet another swift approval for a bridge that will massively increase trade with our neighbor to the south, boost the resiliency of our supply chain, and support good-paying jobs across the Lone Star State.

I am proud to have worked with my colleagues to support Bridge 4/5 in Webb County and am thrilled that they have now secured their presidential permit!

The new bridge will be located approximately 12.6 miles south of Laredo, off the Zapata Highway, within the city of Rio Bravo. The original application for the presidential permit was submitted on March 15, 2022.

Currently referred to as International Bridge Four/Five, this project reflects the fourth bridge for Tamaulipas and the fifth bridge for Webb County. Congressman Henry Cuellar released a statement on his social media platform congratulating Webb County and noted that the permit was expedited through language secured in the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act.
