Mindy Casso

Anchor
Mindy Casso

With her high school diploma under her belt and suitcase in hand, in 1987, Mindy Casso enrolled at Texas State University (then Southwest Texas), on a quest to earn her bachelor’s degree in Communications/Public Relations.

In 2004, Mindy Casso would receive a phone call from KGNS-TV asking if she would consider the on-air position of news anchor. After much reflection on how this would change the dynamics of her communications style, Mindy realized the opportunity to report, write and share relevant stories was the path that had been carved out for her during those early years in high school. Since then, Mindy has become a well-respected broadcast journalist, as both a reporter and news anchor.

Mindy began with the station in 2004, where she has served as the main news anchor in any given year, easily transitioning from one newscast to another. Under her belt are the one-hour morning newscast, KGNS News Today, KGNS News at Noon, the 5pm Early Edition, the 6pm Evening Edition, KGNS News at 10pm and the Sunday Weekend Edition at 5pm and 10pm. Never giving up her desire to tell relevant stories that matter however, even while serving as news anchor, Mindy has continued reporting under her mantra, “News You Can Use.”

Today, Mindy celebrates 32 years since returning to Laredo with her communications degree, and that’s how long the community has felt the impact of her passion for the truth. She continues anchoring the news, recently returning to the morning newscast for a third stint waking up the community with her signature smile and cheerful ‘Good Morning’—while always signing off with a simple, ‘Be Safe’.

When asked about the secret to a successful 32-year career in communications, Mindy says it’s simple: “Be kind, be humble, be grateful; but when it comes to reporting the news, always listen, question, and dig a little deeper because while there are two sides to every story, somewhere in between lies the truth and that’s the story that needs to be told.”

Mindy and her husband Peter have been married 27 years and have proudly raised two boys together.
