Airport receives over $7.5M for cargo runway improvements

LAREDO,Texas(KGNS)- Over 7.5 million dollars is going towards the Laredo International Airport for necessary improvements.

Congressman Henry Cuellar and the City of Laredo announced the approval of the federal funds.

The money will be specifically used for the airport's cargo runway.

These funds are adding to the over 181-million dollars in federal funds the airport has received in the last 10 years.

City of Laredo Transportation Director Mario Maldonado says the grant money will rehab the cargo apron's concrete.

Maldonado says this year, the Federal Aviation Administration ranked Laredo International Airport at number 42 in cargo activity in the country.

In Texas, Laredo ranks number 5 cargo activity, surpassing El Paso and Austin.
