LAREDO,Texas(KGNS)- Webb County Attorney Marco Montemayor is clearing speculation surrounding a letter he sent to Texas Attorney General.
In the letter, Montemayor requests an opinion from Attorney General Ken Paxton on the election code. Specifically, he asks whether an individual convicted of a felony is able to run for office after completing their sentence and having their voting rights restored.
The content of the letter had many people in Webb County speculating if it involved a current Webb County Election candidate.
We spoke with Montemayor on the communities concerns and he says the letter in no way involves the County or the City. Saying he sent the letter as a courtesy request from a colleague in another agency.
Montemayor understands how the issue may hit close to home, but he assures the community that this doesn't involve the local election.
