(NBC) - American Airlines has decided to a launch a new policy where passengers with peanut allergies can board early.
In just a few weeks, the airline will allow passengers with allergies to board flights early so they can wipe down their seats and avoid possible exposure to allergens.
The airline announced the new policy in a filing with the U.S. Transportation Department in response to a complaint by food allergy research and education.
American Airlines joins Delta Air in offering early boarding for passengers with allergies.
The policy will go into effect on December 12th with the updating of flight-service manuals.
According to the filing, roughly 15 million Americans suffer from food allergies.
