Drive-thru shut down for allegedly operating as sexually oriented business

LAREDO,Texas(KGNS)- The future of a business closed by the city was discussed on Wednesday afternoon.

The Baby Dolls drive-thru business was shut down last week as a result of two code violations.

According to city officials, those violations were for allegedly conducting as a sexually oriented business in a zone where it was not permitted and the second was for doing so without a proper permit.

Attorney Nathan Chu says, "If those violations occur you have opportunities to send your officers out there to write a citation, to give them notice that they are doing something wrong. They didn't do that, they decided to talk to the judge first and shut down the business completely."

Chu goes on to say that as a result of the temporary restraining order, his client’s business has not been able to conduct regular business such as selling snacks, beverages as well as other products.

A controversial business is ordered to shut its doors.

The City of Laredo tells us Baby Dolls Drive Thru located on 2802 Chihuahua, had more than one reason to temporarily shut it down.

Blasita Lopez with the city says both violations discovered by the zoning and code enforcement department revolved around the nature of the business.

One was for not complying with zoning regulations, and the other was operating as a sexually oriented business without a proper permit.

As a result of those rules, the business is closed for now. The city delivered a temporary restraining order.

The city and the business owner are set to appear in the 341st District Court on Tuesday, September 19th.

The judge will then decide whether operation continues or not.

A resident from the area told us he wasn't aware of the business, and although he isn't for or against the business, he tells us rules must be followed.

If you would like to report a zoning or city code violation, you can report it at 3-1-1.
